A Reflection on Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

Jesus preached the good news of the Kingdom/Queendom of God. It is the only thing Jesus called good news. He talks about the pearl-in-an-oyster Kingdom/Queendom of God being a treasure that’s worth selling everything you own in order to obtain. That it is a pearl of great price, the object of the highest effort of all our seeking, that one should spare no energy or cost to obtain.

You may wonder why I refer to the Kingdom/Queendom of God. It is because Jesus says it is like a woman making homemade bread. Have you ever eaten any homemade bread made by a Queen of the kitchen? The Kingdom/Queendom of God is about producing bread for the world, feeding the hungry!

We don’t celebrate enough that the Kingdom/Queendom of God is about just production as well as equitable distribution.

The resurrected Christ is the energy of just production that meets human need. He beats guided missiles into tractors and fighter jets into solar panels in order to create cooperative economies where all have a living wage and all are fed. Now this is a treasure of love, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit ( Romans 14:17 ) that this Kingdom/Queendom of God is all about.

The Kingdom/Queendom of God is not words, it is the power ( I Corinthians 14:20 ) of production that meets human need as it restores the earth. It is about justice not charity.

The church is called to be the instrument of this Kingdom/Queendom of God.
